San Marino increasingly focuses on sustainable mobility

Green plaques and incentives for the purchase of fully electric or hydrogen cars were presented to the press

The Republic of San Marino continues to aim decisively towards sustainable, public and private, mobility.
‏This is the strong message that the Government and the Azienda Autonoma di Stato per i Servizi Pubblici (AASS) launch.
‏The Secretary of State for Education, Culture and relations with the AASS, Marco Podeschi, the Secretary of State for Finance, the Budget and Transport, Eva Guidi and the director of AASS Raoul Chiaruzzi met the press to illustrate the initiatives undertaken in this regard and future ones.
‏The most recent is the creation of green plates for vehicles with 100% electric power, of which the first models were presented. They were established by decree n. 22 of 2019, ratified in these days by the Great and General Council.
‏The plates will be of three different sizes, and will be installed respectively on vehicles (cars, trucks, buses), motorcycles and mopeds.

‏”At this moment – said the Secretary Guidi – it is important to give a strong and visible signal to highlight even more the ecological choice in terms of viability”.
‏The new green cars will have a green license plate by default, while vehicles already in circulation will be able to ask to change it by contacting the Urat. “I want to underline – the secretary added – that apart from the limited cost of the system, the green plates will cost like the normal one”.
‏The secretary then dampened the controversy about the limited numbering. “Obviously, as we all hope, when we exceed 999 units we will introduce alpha-numeric numbering”.
‏To date, there are 68 electric vehicles registered in the Urat registers, of which 28 registered only in 2018, including 7 cars.
‏”The green plates – added Marco Podeschi – are the most visible aspect of the E-Way project, which has over 20 public recharging points and important reductions for those who decide to purchase zero-emission vehicles. With the new plates, additional visibility is given to ecological vehicles, as is already the case in other countries. So it will be even easier to see if there is a 100% electric vehicle in the parking lots with a charging station. The number of electric vehicles is increasing every year”.

‏The decision to extend the incentives for the purchase of low environmental impact vehicles, established by law no. 25 of October 2017, until 31 December 2019. For those who decide to purchase an electric vehicle, a tax credit of 80 percent of the import tax is provided, a subsidy that rises to 99 percent in the case of hydrogen vehicles. In addition, a 30 percent tax reduction is foreseen for the purchase of charging stations for residential buildings. “They are very important incentives – added Podeschi – which, together with the evolution of the electric vehicle market, we expect can lead more and more San Marino citizens to choose zero-emission mobility”.

‏Completing the circle is the E-Way project carried out starting from 2018 by the AASS. It is a public infrastructure that today has 22 charging stations for cars, which can also be easily located via a dedicated ZapGrid “downloadable” App for free, and 6 charging points for e-bikes. “The project is going well – explained the director Raoul Chiaruzzi – counting that in the months of 2018 after the activation we have provided over 500 recharges of electricity. We will soon install vertical signs for each column and update the dedicated website The infrastructure is owned by the AASS which can also “rent” it to individual operators, a bit like it works with telephony”.
